Japanese TCFD Implementation Guide launches at inaugural summit

The Japanese version of the TCFD Implementation Guide, which launched at the TCFD Summit this October, provides localised guidance for climate-related financial disclosure.

Mardi McBrien speaks at the TCFD Summit in Japan

This October marks the inaugural global TCFD Summit. Held in Tokyo and endorsed by the government of Japan, the event saw over 300 attendees, including policymakers, financial institutions and businesses with the aim of facilitating discussion and accelerating climate-related financial disclosure.

As part of the summit, the Japan Exchange Group, Climate Disclosure Standards Board (CDSB) and Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) hosted a seminar to launch the Japanese version of the TCFD Implementation Guide. Developed by CDSB and SASB, the Guide was translated by EY Japan. The Guide directly addresses market demand for clearer TCFD-aligned disclosure guidance. Drawing on each organisation’s well-established reporting standards, tools and frameworks, it offers companies the “how-to” to drive implementation of the 11 recommended TCFD disclosures.

Nearly 200 Japanese organisations declared support for the TCFD recommendations. The TCFD Implementation Guide in Japanese marks an important milestone by offering them comprehensive, localised guidance to enhance their disclosure of climate-related information.

“TCFD supporters are growing every day, with Japan leading the way. The time is now to convert support for the recommendations into decisive action and uptake of TCFD aligned disclosures, so that the market can take advantage of greater transparency when it comes to climate-related risks and opportunities. It’s about using the tools we have to create the future we want," said Mardi McBrien, Managing Director, CDSB

CDSB, recognised globally for its work in advancing and supporting the disclosure of climate change and environmental information, hosts the TCFD Knowledge Hub  on behalf of the TCFD, enabling access to a vast library of resources, including case studies and CPD-accredited online courses. CDSB is also the Knowledge Partner of the Japan TCFD Consortium.
